TUNING SIGNAL...

Snapshot A photo board that forgets you on purpose.

July 2026

A shared photo board for a small group of people. Take a photo, it lands on the board. No feed, no likes, no bio to optimize, no algorithm deciding what you should feel about it. Every snapshot auto-expires after 48 hours — you can still manually delete one earlier if you took an objectively bad photo of yourself, but nobody can save one longer, which is the one moderation feature I actually stand behind. From hour 10 it starts fading out visually, basically a progress bar counting down to "you had to be there." Rust backend, native Swift frontend, iOS only, self-hosted on Levo Studio's own EU infrastructure — so for once I'm the one paying the storage bill for other people's food pics. Public beta live on TestFlight.

WHY I BUILD IT

I'm doing a two-month stay in New Zealand, and the actual target user for this app is my girlfriend, who is very unenthusiastic about the idea of me disappearing to the other side of the planet for it. Everyone else is basically a beta tester. Snapchat was out too — not thrilled about my face living on servers I don't own and can't argue with. Instagram or just sending photos over Messenger like a caveman wasn't cutting it either. The idea showed up two months early, because I'm an overthinker who plans a going-away app the way other people pack a suitcase. What should've been a weekend project ate my life whole, right next to Levo Studio and exam season — my grades did not approve. Also my first-ever Rust project, so obviously that went smoothly: no Next.js training wheels, straight into borrow-checker hell, bug count blowing way past the original scope. Had a clean Figma design I swore I'd implement exactly as drawn. Didn't. Came out cooler anyway, mostly because I couldn't leave Apple's Taptic Engine alone. The name's from ops: you snapshot a server before touching it — current state, not a permanent record, nobody's restoring from six months ago. Same rule here. Everything expires on schedule, no exceptions, the one system I've built that actually does what it's told.
